Urgent Electrical Problems

When an Electrical Problem Cannot Wait

If you smell burning, see sparks or scorch marks, or a breaker will not stay on, call A to Z Electric at (469) 746-4441. We offer same-day service whenever possible across the DFW metroplex, and a licensed electrician finds the cause instead of just resetting the breaker.

If there is smoke, fire or a downed power line, call 911 first and stay clear. If the whole street is dark, check with your utility before calling an electrician, since the problem may be on their side of the meter.

For anything inside your home, turn off the affected breaker if you can do it safely, keep people away from the outlet or panel, and do not open covers or touch wiring. Then call us.

What's Included

Urgent Problems We Handle

These are the calls that should not wait for a convenient week.

Burning Smells and Scorch Marks

A burning or fishy smell, or brown marks on an outlet or switch plate, usually means a connection is overheating.

Sparking Outlets and Switches

Sparks, crackling or buzzing from a device point to a loose or damaged connection that needs repair.

Breakers That Will Not Reset

A breaker that trips again right away, or will not reset at all, is protecting you from a fault on that circuit.

Partial Power Loss

Half the house dark, lights dimming when appliances start, or one room dead often traces back to the panel, a neutral or the service.

Hot or Buzzing Panels

A panel that is warm to the touch, buzzing or showing rust or melted parts needs a licensed electrician.

Storm and Water Damage

Water near outlets or the panel, or damage to the service mast or meter base after a storm.

Who It's For

Who Should Call an Emergency Electrician

  • Anyone who smells burning near an outlet, switch or panel. Turn off that circuit if it is safe to do so and call.
  • Homeowners with a breaker that keeps tripping. Repeated trips are a warning, not an inconvenience. See why a breaker keeps tripping.
  • Households with partial power. When some rooms work and others do not, the cause can be serious and is not a do-it-yourself fix.
  • Businesses that cannot stay closed. Our commercial electricians repair the problem and document the fix.
  • Landlords and property managers. A tenant report of sparks or heat needs a licensed electrician on site.

FAQ

Emergency Electrician Questions

What counts as an electrical emergency?

Burning smells, smoke, sparks, scorch marks, a hot or buzzing panel, a breaker that will not reset, partial loss of power and water near electrical equipment are all reasons to call right away. If there is fire, smoke or a downed line, call 911 first.

How fast can you get here?

We offer same-day service whenever possible across the DFW metroplex. Call and tell us what is happening, and we will tell you when we can be there.

Should I reset a breaker that keeps tripping?

Resetting a tripped breaker once is fine. If it trips again right away, leave it off and call. The breaker is reacting to an overload, a short or a ground fault on that circuit.

The power is out on my whole street. Should I call you?

Check with your utility first. A neighborhood outage is the utility’s to fix. If your neighbors have power and you do not, or only part of your home is out, call us.

Are your electricians licensed?

Yes. A to Z Electric holds Texas State Electrical Contractor License #24608 and is fully insured. All workmanship is covered by our lifetime warranty.
