Electrician in The Colony, TX
The Colony began as one builder's 1970s development on Lewisville Lake and filled in over the next forty years. Panel replacements, device updates and repairs for both the originals and newer homes.
The Colony Started as a 1974 Housing Development
The Colony did not exist until 1973, when the homebuilder Fox and Jacobs bought 3,000 acres around SH 121 and FM 423 and planned a dream city of single-family homes. The first families moved in during October 1974, the city incorporated in 1977, and it later merged with the lakeside community of Eastvale. With about 23 miles of Lewisville Lake shoreline, it calls itself the City by the Lake.
The housing reflects that start: 18% of homes date from the 1970s and 17% from the 1980s, while about half are from this century. So the city holds some of the oldest original panels in its part of Denton County alongside much newer homes. Oncor and TNMP both deliver in ZIP 75056, and CoServ may serve some addresses. The Colony takes us about 65 minutes to reach without traffic, and we schedule visits ahead.
The Colony, Old and New
Original 1970s Panels
The earliest houses are around fifty years old. Panels from that era may have worn breakers, limited spaces and brands that are no longer made.
Checking for Aluminum
The first homes went up in 1974, just after the years most associated with aluminum branch wiring, roughly 1965 to 1973. It is less likely here, but worth ruling out in the oldest houses.
Two Generations of Housing
A 1970s home and a 2010s home on the same side of town need very different work. We look at your house's era before recommending anything.

The Colony Electrician Questions
My house is one of the original 1970s homes. What should I check first?
Start with the panel and a sample of outlets. We look for worn breakers, missing GFCI protection and any sign of aluminum branch wiring.
